What is Labiaplasty?
Labiaplasty is also known as labia reduction surgery and is a cosmetic procedure that involves trimming and reshaping the labia minora in adult women. This surgery reduces the length of a labia that feels or appears to be too long. In some women, the excessive skin causes discomfort when wearing tight undergarments or during sexual intercourse. Some women also wish to have their labia reshaped for cosmetic reasons, such as correcting asymmetry.
Who is a candidate for the Labiaplasty procedure?
Fully developed adult women who are uncomfortable with the length or appearance of their labia minora and who are in overall good health are candidates for labiaplasty. Most women seek the procedure to reduce the length of one or both labia. Some women are born with exceptionally long labia, while others develop the condition after childbirth or as a result of the aging process. Women with full fatty mons can also safely undergo liposuction of that area to reduce the fatty appearance.
Will everything look and feel normal after my Labiaplasty procedure?
Yes! Once your body has fully healed from your surgery, you may enjoy a normal and active lifestyle. The scars from labiaplasty are extremely fine and naturally camouflaged by skin creases, making them fully undetectable. Sensitivity may be improved by the removal of extra skin and you may choose to include removal of the clitoral hood for increased sensitivity.
How popular is Labiaplasty?
Labiaplasty popularity has continued to grow despite not being a topic of frequent discussion.
Vaginal Reconstruction Experience
Labiaplasty is an elective cosmetic procedure. Dr. Work is experienced in vaginal reconstruction having performed hundreds of these procedures.
What type of anesthesia does the Labiaplasty require?
Labiaplasty is performed under IV sedation or general anesthesia with a board-certified anesthesiologist. The Atlanta Center for Breast and Aesthetic Surgery is an AAAASF accredited and Medicare certified facility. The procedure only takes one to two hours and is performed as an outpatient. You will quickly awaken following the procedure and should be able to go home within an hour after entering the recovery room.
There will be mild discomfort and swelling following labiaplasty. Eighty percent of the swelling typically subsides within the first two weeks. The remaining swelling may persist for six weeks.
Post-operative instructions after surgery include the following:
- One week off work.
- Epson salt soaks daily for one week.
- No sexual intercourse for four weeks.
- Return to normal activities at four weeks.
If you live near Atlanta, you can go home right after the surgery. Out of town patients normally stay overnight in one of our recommended hotels and can return home the next day.
In order to make sitting more comfortable, you can sit on an inflatable donut cushion. Sitz baths are recommended for therapeutic soaking in the immediate post-operative period for one week. You will have swelling for the first three to four days, which will gradually subside over the next couple of weeks. Most patients can resume sexual relations in three to four weeks.
How Much Does Labiaplasty Cost in Atlanta?
Labiaplasty, like other cosmetic procedures, is not a covered expense by most health insurance providers. The Atlanta Center for Breast and Aesthetic Surgery makes the procedure affordable to all our patients by offering easy financing options through CareCredit® and Prosper® Healthcare Lending. Our office also accepts cash, personal checks, and credit cards.
